Introduction
At Rudolf Heltzel, sustainability isn’t a slogan. It’s simply how we work — slow, intentional, and with lasting purpose. For over 50 years, we’ve created handmade fine jewellery in our Kilkenny studio using time-honoured techniques, natural materials, and a belief in quality over quantity.
In a world of fast fashion and mass production, we choose something different: the enduring values of traditional goldsmithing and thoughtful design. This is our version of sustainability — rooted in heritage, refined by hand, and crafted to last.
Jewellery Crafted the Slow Way
Each piece of Rudolf Heltzel jewellery is made one at a time by master goldsmiths and apprentices in our studio in Kilkenny, Ireland. We don’t follow seasonal trends or produce large runs. We work slowly, creating select commissions and limited collections that honour both client and material.
This approach echoes the slow fashion movement — less waste, fewer resources, more meaning. It’s not about keeping up. It’s about creating something worth keeping.
Recycled Gold and Responsible Materials
All of our jewellery is crafted using 18ct gold or platinum. Wherever possible, we work with recycled precious metals refined by C. Hafner, a European supplier known for clean, closed-loop processing and strict environmental standards.
Clients often bring us family jewellery to be melted and re-imagined — a process that extends the life of materials while adding emotional depth to every piece.
We also hold a carefully curated collection of gemstones, sourced over decades from trusted cutters and dealers including Henri Keesje and Bernd Munsteiner. Our approach isn’t about quantity, but quality — each gem chosen for its beauty, integrity, and ability to inspire design.
Designed for Longevity, Made to Be Worn
At the heart of everything we do is timelessness. We design pieces that transcend fashion, rooted in proportion, balance, and sculptural detail. Jewellery should last generations — in both durability and design. That’s why we craft for wear, repair, and legacy
Whether it’s a bespoke commission or a one-of-a-kind ready-to-wear piece, our focus is always on enduring elegance.
Preserving Craft for the Future
Sustainability is not just about materials — it’s about preserving knowledge. Our Kilkenny workshop is a living studio, where master goldsmiths pass on their skills to apprentices, ensuring that traditional techniques stay alive in modern hands.
We also prioritise low-waste practices, studio efficiencies, and meaningful production, staying true to our values without compromising our craftsmanship.
Final Thoughts
Sustainability, for us, is a natural outcome of how we work. We make fewer pieces — but better ones. We reuse what matters. We design with longevity in mind. In every detail, from recycled gold to handcrafted settings, we create jewellery that endures — in beauty, in value, and in meaning.
